Have you ever felt like you have known people for what seems like for ages or years but in reality, you only have known them for only a little while? Well this is exactly the case with Donna Leigh-Perfect and Michael Bennett from the Dream Guards.
A good friend of mine Petra Williams from Woman’s on Fire suggested I should get in contact with Donna and Michael and see if we DV Free aka Mum and Son Adventure and the Dream Guards have some synergy together.
I had no idea who they were or what they do, but I trusted my friend Petra, as I knew she always looks out for me.
So mid last year, Donna, Michael and I met at a Varsity Lake coffee shop and life wasn’t the same anymore. The energy and the stories they told were just incredible, so the three of us decided right there and then that we will be working together.
I was close to tears hearing Donna’s story about her abuse she suffered whilst growing up and Michael’s humor and magic ability was just brilliant too. The amazing part is that this pair combined the tragedy that Donna experienced and Michael’s magic and humor together and created the magical Dream Guards.
Well I guess you may ask on what the Dream Guards are, well let me tell you a little story.
A little while ago, I had the opportunity to sit right in the middle of about 200 primary school children. The kids were so excited that most of them couldn’t sit still in their seats. Some kids were screaming so loud that I nearly lost my hearing. The poor teachers had their hands full trying to calm those kids down, with not much luck I have to add LOL.
Donna and Michael present a school program that teaches primary kids and teenagers to stand up to bullying and to show how the P.E.A.C.E program can change someone’s life. I have never have been moved so much than in that hour. I experience tears and laughter at the same time and I must admit that my brain was surprisingly confused. I wasn’t quite sure if I should cry or laugh and this was the best feeling I ever had.
Their creativity to keep those kids engaged for that long was just incredible, and I do have to say I was feeling like a 10-year-old too. On the end of the hour I was jumping up and down just like all those kids and I even put my hands up as I wanted to be called out onto the stage. Just imaging how this would have looked, OMG, me with ten other primary kids up on stage with balloons sticking all over me.
The Dream Guards have an anti-bullying program that gives primary school kids and teenagers the edge in this ever increasingly competitive world. Your children will learn to tap the hidden courage within. They will learn how to be resilient and overcome roadblocks they inevitably face in their lives, with tangible tools to empower them to stand up to bullying in a positive way.
My greatest wish is that more schools will know about these guys, as their program will change what is going on with young kids these days and hopefully with their work we can stop teenage suicide and bullying which can develop into domestic violence later in life, and because of this I feel so honoured that the Dream Guards decided to join us for our official launch on the 6th of July 2018 for our “Luncheon with Friends” gala event.
More parents, their children and more schools need to experience the gift Donna and Michael have within themselves because with their program we can prevent domestic violence in the long term with the next generation that follows us. So please come along to our luncheon and see this incredible team perform one of their greatest gifts.

Thank you Donna and Michael for coming into my life and joining DV Free in ending abuse for everyone.
